Muladhara Chakra

Muladhara Chakra is the root chakra. It is characterized by the color red, and its symbol as the 4 petaled lotus located at the base of the spine in the region of the tailbone and pelvic floor. Check out my video on the Root Chakra with a live mantra meditation here and yoga asana flows here, and here.

As the name root implies, this is where we find our footing, physically and metaphorically speaking, and it is tied directly to the Earth element.

When you think of the Muladhara Chakra think:

  • Earth

  • Root

  • Red

  • 4 Petaled lotus at the base of the spine

Just as a tree cannot and will not grow without roots, neither will our bodies feel strong and capable with a disturbed muladhara chakra.

To use the tree analogy, as an example, when first the tree was a seed, before the seedling or sprout rose out of the soil, roots were already put in place. As the roots strengthened, so did the tree above ground. As the tree grew, the roots become more robust to support the maturing tree, and so on and so forth. The tree’s survival depends greatly, if not, almost entirely on what is happening at its roots. If there is no nourishment to those roots, the tree is malnourished and may be subject to disease and worst, face a premature death. On the flip side, if those roots are nourished and watered, this will support the livelihood of the tree and its health during its long life.

With that being said, It is extremely important to give the muladhara chakra a lot of attention in our lives. The energy of this chakra is all about a sense of rootedness, stability, nourishment, and having an anchor in life. It is also about having our basic needs fulfilled, feeling safe and secure, feeling safe in our bodies and in our environments. Lastly, this chakra is associated with feeling at home or having a home, and very importantly, money or income flow is also associated with the root.

When Feeling into The Muladhara Chakra Feel….

  • Secure

  • Stable

  • Grounded

  • Connected

  • Nourished

  • Held

  • At home

  • Abundant

  • Prosperous

When we take care and honor the fact that, although these things may seem mundane or like hard work (putting a roof over our head, proper nourishment, an income through working), it’s necessary for our human survival at this day and age, and all of these things are also necessary for us to grow spiritually. If we don’t know where our next paycheck is coming from, it’s hard to focus on anything other than that. However when we’ve trusted the process and we have stability and a sense of self and security in ourself, there is not only purpose in our outer life, but there’s purpose in our inner life, as well.

What is one thing that can get in the way of our sense of stability and security in our life is ….?????

You guessed it…!

F.E.A.R.
D.O.U.B.T.

And all the other emotions that create a sense of in-security. However, fear is like what a deep frost will do to roots, which is to make them rot, or shrivel up.

Yup! It’s a game changer. However, it’s also unavoidable.

Fears come up. Life throws us curve balls all the time! In the physical sense we may be displaced to different home environments either of our own choice, or not. In either situation, the root is disturbed. We may get layed off or choose different employment.

So much can happen in our lives that disturb and throw us off balance in life.

So what to do??? Where to turn?

How will you deal with those things? What is your go-to? Will you turn to self sabotaging negative mental-head space, or addictive tendencies to numb, or will you chose a different path???

Life is a journey, not to avoid circumstances that disturb us, but to navigate along the journey with a sense of perseverance and connectedness to purpose. If you feel you would like to have more structure in your life to help move through various crossroads, check out my 1-on-1 mentorship offering. This is one way to support your root chakra, navigate uncertainty, and live a purpose-filled life.

Sometimes it’s hard to know what those things are and which direction to take.

That is why meditation is helpful. Meditation helps to calm the mind and nervous system which allows us to perceive from a different perspective, mainly it allows us to feel grounded and rooted so we feel safe to see from a different perspective.

There are various styles of meditation, and one method that I really love and practice almost daily is Mantra Meditation.

Mantas are sacred sound vibrations that allow us to disrupt negative and addictive mental patterns. They are used to focus the mind on a higher vibration, or a higher purpose. Various mantras have different effects, or what I like to call, Gifts associated with them.

A mantra  that can be chanted to support the Muladhara Chakra is a Mantra to Ganesha.

Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha

This means that I bow to the vibration and wholeness that is all encompassed within Ganesha.

Ganesha is known to remove obstacles, fears, and negativity in one’s life, but most importantly in the mind. He is associated with the root chakra, and helps us to tap into our sense of security, wholeness, and abundance within.

Chant this mantra 108 times as a full mala.

Blessings to you all, and may you all feel safe, secure, at home, and at peace within your body, mind, and soul.

Namaste.
